GSMA Announces that Global Mobile Connections Surpass 5 Billion

The GSMA announced that CEOs and other senior executives from companies including Axiata, China Mobile, China Unicom, NTT DOCOMO, Sina Corporation and ZTE will headline the 2010 Mobile Asia Congress, which will be held 17-18 November at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

GSMA Wins Conference Award For APP Planet

The GSMA announced that it was awarded the prize for Best Development of an Association Event at the inaugural Conference Awards, which were held June 25th in London. The GSMA was recognised for App Planet, its developer-focused event within an event, which was launched at the 2010 Mobile World Congress.

Verizon EVP and CTO Dick Lynch Appointed to GSMA Board

The GSMA announced that Dick Lynch, EVP and CTO of Verizon, a leading telecommunications operator in the U.S., has been appointed to the GSMA’s Board. Lynch’s appointment follows Verizon gaining full membership to the GSMA as a result of its commitment to deploy commercial services based on Long-Term Evolution (LTE), the next-generation technology for Mobile Broadband and part of the GSM family of technologies, in 2010.

GSMA Takes Two at Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards

The GSMA announced the details of a further seven grantees from the Mobile Money for the Unbanked (MMU) Fund, which is administered by the GSMA Foundation, Inc., with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. New grantees are Cellcard in Cambodia, Digicel in Fiji, Orange in West Africa, Safaricom in Kenya, Tata Indicom in India, Telenor in Pakistan, and Tigo in Africa.
